After enduring an isolated existence for six long years within a squalid barn stall, Lazarus is now embarking on a fresh start, thanks to a remarkable grooming transformation that stripped away a staggering 35 pounds of matted fur from his massive and fluffy body.
Amanda Brooke Charsha-Lindsey, a dedicated member of the Big Fluffy Dog Rescue organization, recently shared a heartwarming snapshot of Lazarus on her Facebook page, capturing the astonishing transformation brought about by groomer Candice Skelton. Lazarus, confined in a barn stall for half a dozen years, was in dire need of grooming, and Skelton undertook the painstaking task of meticulously shaving off the accumulated fur. The before-and-after photos showcased a Lazarus who was barely recognizable, and Charsha-Lindsey supplemented this visual journey with videos documenting his progress and a detailed account of his story.
During the grooming process, Lazarus initially displayed apprehension, but as his burden of hair was gradually lifted, his demeanor shifted from anxiety to tranquil ity. Lindsey recounted, “While he was receptive to human touch, it seemed unfamiliar to him. Yet, he rapidly warmed up to us, especially after a few delectable treats were offered.”
Now a resident of the non-profit organization Big Fluffy Dog Rescue, Lazarus currently resides in a foster home in Virginia. He will stay there for a period of weeks or months until he signals his readiness for permanent adoption into a forever family.
Jean Harrison, the founder of Big Fluffy Dog Rescue, reports that Lazarus is adapting to his newfound life. She mentioned, “His cautious approach to a freshly grilled steak saddened us momentarily. Nevertheless, he swiftly grasped the concept and displayed an exuberant appreciation for the meal.”
In the short time since his rescue, Lazarus has revealed himself to be a gentle, affectionate, and appreciative canine. However, Harrison acknowledges that the notion of his gratitude tugs at the heartstrings, expressing hopes for the day when Lazarus claims all the care and affection as his rightful entitlement, free from the shadows of enduring hardships and suffering.
